It’s ambitious to call yourself a person of many interests. Such a declaration is bound to raise eyebrows– after all, is it possible to believe someone when they say “oh, I’m into a little bit of everything”? when you can easily counter with something like “including ancient Dorian pottery?”
Tory Marshman is seriously a woman who is into a little bit of everything. Its her gift and curse, although the curse only manifests itself as many a sleepless night spent poring over books or meditating on images. We tend to applaud children for their porous minds and their seeming ability to soak up information indiscriminately. But Tory never lost that mental sponge, it’s as absorbent as ever.
Although she was born in New York State, she was raised in San Francisco. When she was a little girl, her parents gave her a camera in the hopes it would keep her out of trouble. Tory ran with it, and without any knowledge of shutter speed or aperture she took image after image of the world around her. As she matured, so did her art. She eventually moved back east to attend Boston University, where she earned a B.A. as well as a certificate in photography.
